Brenda May Ching

Brenda May Ching was born and raised in Honolulu. She graduated from the University of Hawaii with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in weaving and textile design.

"I work with metal and fiber but not necessarily together. Most of my jewelry is fabricated from sterling silver, gold, copper and stones. A new series of work uses beads of glass, wood, stone, plastic and metal combined with sterling silver wire. All parts are made from wire that is twisted and wrapped around beads. The completed necklaces are then antiqued with a patina and cleaned to obtain the desired effect. I continue to work with fiber; painting or printing fabrics for clothing or accessories such as hand bags. Pieces are embellished with beads, free-hand machine or hand embroidery, or appliques."

"Life should be balanced, so on a bigger scale, I make windsurfing sails. These do not have beads on them but you never know..."
