Chiu Wai Leong
For over twenty-five years, Chiu Leong has worked as a studio potter, studied Japanese tea ceremony, and constucted a Sung style house that depicts the era in China from which his ancestors originated. His ceramic work takes many forms and glaze surfaces and is fired in raku, pit fire, stoneware or porcelain techniques.
Chiu’s work is in the collections of the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, First Hawaiian Bank and the Hyatt Waikoloa as well as many private institutions and homes. His work is shown in galleries throughout Hawai‘i and in New York, Maine and Los Angeles. He has taught at the University of Hawai‘i Community College, in the Artist in the Schools program for the Department of Education, and gives private workshops and classes. He is also an accomplished photographer.
He and his wife, the dancer/choreographer Eva Lee, live in Volcano Village.
