Christina Heliker
Christina is a geologist who worked at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory for 22 years. Her photographs of Kilauea's eruptions have appeared in numerous magazines and books as well as in a Smithsonian exhibition. More recently, she has turned her camera to Hawaii's native birds and landscapes, and her photographs have won awards in juried art exhibitions. Her photographs are printed with Epson ultrachrome inks on archival grade paper and matted with acid-free materials.
"My involvement with photography has evolved from using it as a tool for my job to pursuing it as an art form. Over the course of my career as a geologist, I took thousands of slides documenting volcanic activity. As digital photography developed, so did my interest in being able to process and print my own work, thus adding my own interpretation to the original image."
